US 290 Widening: FM 1371 to SH 6, TxDOT Houston and Bryan
Client:IDCUS prepared a Categorical Exclusion (CE), wetland delineation, and obtained USACE & TCEQ permits. The purpose of the 11.6-mile project is to improve mobility & safety within the project corridor. The project includes upgrading the 9.5-mile facility from an undivided 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided roadway with wide shoulders & new sidewalks. Complex issues included improving the signalized intersection at FM 1155. A crash analysis showed the facility had a higher crash rate than the statewide average for similarly classified facilities. Further, the signalized intersection at FM 1155 was identified as a crash hot-spot with 29 crashes occurring from 2014 to 2018. IDCUS & TxDOT anticipated high public interest in this intersection to improve safety & mobility, and a Virtual Public Meeting was conducted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
